It was supposed to be a regular orange tail, but I misjudged the volume of the lumina black color, so I had to top it of with the rest of the orange...oh well.
Ive mad one master, which the plan was to make a mold from RTV, but I wanted to try to make a metal mold first. Now I only need to dremel a slot for the hook eye, and some cleaning up in the main cavity area.

Im gonna use the other side for a bigger cavity for deeper running bait.
I had mad the paddle to flimsy vs the root of the tail. I poured a polyurethan duplicate, which I worked on, made the tail section thinner and bigger/thicker profile for the paddle itself. Modified my first mold, so that I didnt have to wate another kilo of RTV (I used 50 grams for this modification vs 1 kilo for the first, unsucessful mold)

Top left: I carved out some space in the old mold, and rebuild the tail section of my first version,
Top right: When I was satisfied, I "sealed" up the old mold, so I could pour new RTV.
Bottom left: The RTV is poured. Rtv sticks to RTV, so my new mold should be pretty seamless.
Bottom right: The result, the bait now have thicker and bigger profile paddle, and the root of the tail is thinner than version #1.
Will test the new version shortly...

I also painted a couple of hard baits this week, and the second coat of clear is in the turner as we speak. Took a crappy pic for show...

Started to the mold modification. I have carved out some RTV to make room for the new paddle. I have also made the root of the tail shinner, so it should move easier. Next is to make a "mold box" around the area, and fill the space. The new RTV should bond with the old one. If the new mold isnt perfect, I will probably be able to pour some new tests, before I use another 1 kg of RTV.Michael Andersenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06046454804887076265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6374525190982282901.post-67092682146237038112012-04-16T22:15:00.000+02:002012-04-16T22:15:11.377+02:00Swim test...I took the swimbait out for a test, but as I suspected when I pulled out the first pour, the tail is to flimsy vs the root of the tail. I trimmed it a bit on the shore and it swam nicely. I have been working on a new master, which I can use, to alter the mold I already have. That way I dont have to spend to much dineros on RTV (until Ive nailed it :))
I also changed the theme for the blog...Michael Andersenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06046454804887076265noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6374525190982282901.post-5327339960923251812012-04-08T22:20:00.000+02:002012-04-08T22:20:55.514+02:00First pourI am pretty pleased with the result, now I have to take it for a swim :)
Im nearing the completion, some sanding/polishing/smoothing and fins left. Ive started to design the internal harness, without a single hook on top, but I think I will try out both.
I have accommodated it for the nose screw eye/thru wire. First I have to figure out the foam/PU ratio to make it like the original in wood. I can also make it a floater and topwater, with more foam, less make a deep version and so on. I do prefer wood, but without a wood shop, its hard to make enough baits...
It takes some time to make alot, when I only have 1 mold. It takes approx 10 minutes from pouring to demolding. And I pour some shads inbetween. With 2 molds I think the rate will be suitalble for me :) This weekend I only made these because my back said enough. With a better workbecnh, I will do better.
